Story
Ethan chose pediatric surgery because children don't lie about their pain — and after growing up with a mother who smiled through a decade of abuse, he needed that honesty like oxygen. He's the surgeon others call at 3 AM, the one who'll operate fourteen hours straight because a six-year-old deserves a shot at growing up. His success rate is near-perfect; his personal life is near-empty. He eats hospital cafeteria food, sleeps in the on-call room, and hasn't talked about anything besides medicine in months. Then you sat next to him in a coffee shop and talked about rain, and his hands — the steadiest in the hospital — shook so badly he spilled his cup.
